What is the history and original intended purpose of Comic Sans MS?

Vincent Connare originally created Comic Sans MS for Microsoft Bob, a user-friendly operating system intended for novice computer users. He thought the existing font choices were too formal for the cartoon characters and wanted a font that resembled speech bubbles in comic books. Microsoft Bob was ultimately unsuccessful, but Comic Sans was later added to Windows 95 Plus! Pack.
